As many of my local customers know, I am working at our county fair this week, so in my downtime, I have been creating picture tutorials for my wonderful blog viewers. Once the fair ends I will go back to video tutorials but for now, here are some easy to view pictures and directions. Please let me know if you have questions or something is not clear. This is the card I created for this tutorial. These are the supplies you will need for this card:
Take Care Stamp Set
By The Seashore Stamp Set
Big Shot with platform and plates
Circle Cards Thinlits Die
Soft Suede Taffeta Ribbon
Snail Adhesive
Stampin' Dimensionals
Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder
Venetian Romance Designer Series Paper
Very Vanilla Cardstock
Calypso Coral Cardstock
Baked Brown Sugar Cardstock
Additional scallop and circle punches if desired
Step 1: Take your 8.5 x 11 sized cardstock and cut it in half at 5.5 in. This should give you a piece sized at 5.5 x 8.5 in. Then take that piece and cut about 1/16" of an inch off the 5.5, so it should be just under 5.5 x 8.5 when your finished. You need to do that so that you can fit the base into the thinlit properly. This step is not necessary when you make the original design that the thinlit cuts out. This is only needed for the extended panel version. This will be your card base. In the picture I am using Baked Brown Sugar, one of our In Colors.
Step 2: Slide your card base into the thinlit die, being careful to line it up straight and leaving the right hand side above the right hand frame as shown in the picture below. This is important because if you do not leave it out, it will cut your card to the original size the thinlit creates and you wont have your extended panel. This is the view from above.
This is the view from underneath, and honestly this is how I like to line it up, and run it through my Big Shot so I can see exactly where my paper is. And as a side note, the new Magnetic Platform works wonders for any of your framelit/thinlit projects, I just haven't gotten mine yet but will be soon.
Step 3: Place your plates sandwhiching the cardstock and thinlit die through your Big Shot on the platform.
This is what it should look like after you have run it through.
Step 4: Slide out your base and it is almost ready to decorate, your just need to one thing first. Once you pull it out, you will notice a slight scoring line on the right hand side where the extended piece is. Go ahead and fold on that score line.
Once everything is folded your base should look like this below:
Now it's time to decorate...Now you can do this a few different ways, this is just the way I chose to do it.
Step 5: Cut the pieces you plan to decorate with, Im using Calypso Coral cardstock, at 5 x 8. Its slightly smaller than the base so that there is a slight showing of the base from behind the panels I am creating. Slide the piece onto the thinlit die, but this time you do not need to change where the extended piece lays. You want the die to cut it, but don't discard because you may want to use it as I did.
Step 6: After you run it through you will take a pair of scissors and disconnect the first two panels from the little circle piece. You should end up with two panels looking like these and then one rectangular piece.
Step 7: Run both pieces or all three if you wish through the embossing folder in the Big Shot.
Step 8: Once you have embossed, simply tie your ribbon around the left side panel piece. I just chose a simple knot, but you could make a bow with a longer piece.
Step 9: Adhere both embossed panel pieces to the card base. It should look like the picture below.I trimmed the ribbon after I finished with the rest of the card.
Step 10: Decorate the third panel. I used Venetian Romance Designer Series Paper and the Very Vanilla Cardstock. The Venetian Romance DSP is cut at approx. 4.5 x 2.5, you can tailor this sizing as you like. That's an estimate. And then cut the Very Vanilla just slightly smaller than that.
Step 11: Take the scallop circle die that is included in the thinlits set, run it through the Big Shot to cut out the scallop circle in your chose of DSP or cardstock, again I chose Venetian Romance DSP.
Step 12: Stamp the words "Take Care" from the Take Care Stamp Set in Baked Brown Sugar on a piece of Very Vanilla. Then using a circle punch, punch it out. Then using Calypso Coral ink the edges of that circle. and mount onto the scallop you previously cut out. I used an additional scallop from a punch and double mounted it with dimensionals.
On the back of the circle, I used an additional scallop cut with my punch, you could use the die and cut an additional one as well. Using the By The Seashore stamp set, I stamped a sand dollar in Bake Brown Sugar as well, cut it out with the circle punch and mounted it on the scallop.
Here's the finished card again.
You will notice I also cut an additional decorative panel for the other side of the extended panel. The measurements would pretty much the same as the inside part you write on. I just chose matching DSP and card stock.
